St Annes couple’s horror wedding

The divorce courts are full of people who would claim their wedding was like something from a horror movie. But one couple from St Annes made sure their big day had more than a touch of the macabre about it. When Giuliana Nicholson walked down the aisle she wasn’t accompanied by the traditional Wedding March. Instead it was the theme to Stephen Spielberg’s classic horror Poltergeist which soundtracked her last moments as a single woman. And while groom Paul Hornby wore a traditional morning suit, the bride, on this occasion... [Lire la suite]

I Thought Wedding-Obsessed Women Were Dummies — Until I Became One

I visited the wedding section of J.Crew's website one time, under the cover of night, drunk on romance and wine. I'd seen a movie in which Rashida Jones got married, looking radiant yet casual, and I thought, Nice look, Rashida— why not see what was out there? It was just a little browse, a cheeky secret between me and my MacBook. No one would know. The next day, I opened Facebook to an onslaught of ads for whimsical dresses, even more whimsical headpieces, and the self-explanatory yet deeply inscrutable Wedding Harpist.com. "It's... 9 Things That WILL Go Wrong At Your Wedding

Your wedding, without a doubt, is going to be an amazing occasion, but as you’re planning your big day, it’s important to keep in mind a few things that will go wrong at your wedding. I am so happy that Jim and Pam got married on The Office roughly three years before I got married in real life, because I truly learned a lot from their fictional day of bliss (and chaos — I mean, Michael was there). As a big fan of the show, I was looking forward to the episode for weeks, since I craved any moment that allowed me to see John Krasinski... [Lire la suite]

Is It Taboo to Ask Your Wedding Guests for Money?

Today’s marriages aren’t what they used to be, and that means gift-giving at weddings has got to evolve. In the not-so-distant past, it was common for couples not to have moved in together before saying “I do.” After the wedding, since the bride and groom would be living together for the first time, it made sense to thrust boatloads of blenders and electric mixers into their arms; after all, they’d never had a kitchen to furnish. But today—and particularly in New York, where sky-high rents often make living separately before... [Lire la suite]

Wedding wows

OVERSIZE cupids in pink, furry outfits hand out heart-shaped balloons with “I Do” written on them (in English) at a wedding-themed trade fair in Beijing. Vendors offer romantic photo-shoots of couples under water or at a racetrack, personalised wedding cigarettes, and biscuits with names such as “Date & Fate”. An emphasis on love is a new addition to Chinese weddings—and shines a pink-filtered spotlight on social change. For centuries, marriage in China was about ensuring heirs for the groom’s family. Ceremonies centred on the... [Lire la suite]

40 couples suddenly lose their wedding venue

In June 2013, Eric Decker, who was with the Broncos at the time, married country singer Jessie James at a luxurious venue tucked away in the hills of Douglas County. Decker's wedding put Castle Cliff Estates on the map, according to the owner Catherine Chase-Groos, which is why she was stunned when confronted by Douglas County with a violation a few months later. "I had to inform all of my brides that I could not hold their weddings," Chase-Groos said. "I had to refund their money." A number of neighbors filed complaints against... [Lire la suite]
